Action Items and Policy Changes Community College Partnership
- The Tri-Campus Directors and AVP are supportive of the success to date and the Projected Goals and Action Items for 05-06. There has been considerable progress made over the two years since the inception of the initiative with linkages built between each of the campuses and one or more local community colleges as well as between Tri-Campus and most of the community colleges within the Tri-Campus catchment area.
- The emphasis on Human Rights activities for the 2005-06 academic year offers all of the Connecticut Community Colleges as well as the UConn regional campuses to plan and implement a significant activity with mutual positive impacts. Lin Rising has taken a lead role in this process and has provided opportunities for all the regional campuses to be involved. It is important that the Tri-Campus Directors continue their involvement and encourage individuals from their campuses to participate.
- In anticipation of the next area of emphasis for Tri-Campus (06 – 07), Dr. Lin Rising will begin discussions with Community College leadership regarding a focus on strategies for successful transfer and articulation for community college students coming to Tri-Campus. She will work in partnerships with individuals involved in the admissions and advising and retention initiatives as well as others with an interest in student success with a focus on the community college and Tri-Campus partnerships.
- The several proposals to increase data collection relative to: interaction between Tri-Campus and the community colleges, students who have transferred from the community colleges to Tri-Campus and those who are interested in doing so, identification of Tri-Campus adjunct faculty who also teach at community colleges, etc. is an important element for establishing baseline data and benchmarks and keeping track of the breadth and depth of the collaboration. To that end, we request that Lin Rising , working with appropriate individuals in other roles in Tri-Campus and elsewhere in UConn, develop a set of matrices for data collection (number of transfer students, majors, where they came from, where they are in Tri-Campus; lists of campus collaborative activities; list of faculty and staff with community college connections and descriptions of those connections; lists of articulation agreements and their status relative to Tri-Campus programs; etc.) We request that the baseline data be presented no later than the time of the next annual report – summer '06 – with updates yearly.
- Lin Rising will be establishing regular meetings with each of the Campus Directors to update one another on activities and plan for joint efforts. Because of Lin's half time status, these meetings should be held at least twice in the fall and spring semesters and once at the end of the summer, before the new semester begins.
- In addition to the Tri-Campus goals relative to Community Colleges, each campus should – at a minimum -- have specific annual goals relative to work with the primary community college in their catchment area. Lin will assist the Directors, as needed, in developing and implementing these goals and should be kept advised of any activities, issues, or achievements at the individual campuses.
- Lin will be the primary Tri-Campus contact with the Office of Education Partnerships, working with Jill Thorne, representing Tri-Campus' interests in the on-going UConn negotiations with the community colleges, and communicating with the Tri-Campus leadership regarding any items that require action at a campus or for Tri-Campus as a whole.
- Lin will continue to work directly with the Tri-Campus AVP relative to the planning and implementation of strategies for a successful partnership between Tri-Campus and the community colleges in its catchment area.
