Meeting notes from August 3, 2005 were unanimously approved with Edna highlighting the fact that Mike and Dana are to finalize the “Admissions Goals” by Wednesday September 14.

Community College Linkages report was presented by Lin Rising

Lin distributed copies of her report and reviewed its contents… noting among other things: twelve Community Colleges located in the cachment area, Tri-Campus engagement activities including meetings with Community College Presidents and Academic Deans, continued participation in the Northwest Partnership for Autism Spectrum Disorder, the Greater Hartford Luncheon and presentation for Community College Leaders, the Human Rights Awareness Initiative, attendance at BS/BT and Family Studies Articulation Agreement Meetings and at a Guaranteed Admissions Meeting.  While addressing goals for the coming year, Lin stressed communication, connection and continuation of involvement.

During ensuing discussion:
Nadine questioned the enrollment figures. (Dana was asked to provide information regarding the number of Community College students enrolled at each Tri-Campus campus) and stressed the value of co-listing courses at the Torrington Campus and NCCC. Edna volunteered Nadine to follow-up on that matter.

David Williams asked for information regarding the number of Adjunct Faculty teaching at both the Tri-Campus and Community Colleges.

He also suggested that the Tri-Campus prepare a ‘Position Paper’ on Community Colleges, that each Campus endeavor to meet with the Community Colleges closest to them. Nadine also suggested that High School Guidance Counselors be included in those meetings.

Robin questioned the collaboration with Continuing Studies. It was agreed that such collaboration could be considered one of the ‘challenges.’

It was suggested that Urban & Community Studies should participate more visibly and actively in the Human Rights initiative.

Robin Simmons presented a Power Point presentation re: Tri-Campus Adjunct Faculty Support
Robin distributed copies of her report and reviewed its contents… noting among other things: Committee formation in 2004, Development of process for Certification of Tri-Campus Adjuncts, Development of Tri-Campus Adjunct Faculty Handbook, and consistent Adjunct Faculty Orientations (held in Fall Semesters).

Robin reported that challenges and goals include… 100% appointment of Department approved Faculty Liaisons, more enticing and meaningful Orientation Programs that are of interest to both new and veteran Adjuncts, Collaboration with Student Advising & Retention Team and BGS Counselors to develop training programs for all Faculty re: high risk students, recruitment of high quality Adjunct Faculty, participation in Regional Campus Faculty Development and Student Support Committee established in 2005 to share campus resources and utilize ITL resources and to orgainizze with ITl a tri-campus workshop for faculty re instructional design.

Robin concluded that assistance from the AVP and Directors is essential in achieving the goals.

During ensuing discussion: it was suggested that that it might be beneficial to send survey seeking Adjunct Faculty input and request for information re: their needs later in the semester and/or periodically… with results to be considered when planning for next Orientation Program; Adjunct ‘offer letter' should be revised to include notification of obligation to attend Orientation; those Adjuncts teaching at Community Colleges as well as Tri-Campus should be indicated on Adjunct Grid; the Faculty Handbook should be designed for all faculty, not just adjunct faculty; Faculty Handbook should list all Four Year Degree programs.

Tessie Distributed Budget Reports to each Director
During ensuing conversation: it was agreed that Directors must meet with Tessie and Jennifer Smith periodically to review their budgets.

Directors are to review expenditures on their respective campus facilities; the objective is for Storrs to hold the facilities account as responsibility for Regional facilities have been now been consolidated.

The Hartford Campus parking project must be rebid.

The Torrington wiring project is not yet complted.

The budget account for PR should include funding for Admissions and general Tri-Campus communication; PR.

Student fees cover the cost of student orientations.

Tri-Campus must examine methods of spending frugally given limited funding communicating constantly with Tessie.

Edna advised that given cost of gasoline it is incumbent to plan conference calls and or technical meetings whenever possible and to car pool whenever possible.

Bonnie Smith distributed Tri-Campus Search Status Report
