unanimously approved.
- Vice Provost of Multicultural and International Affairs, Ron Taylor
gave a brief history of the initiation of his position, now 2 1/2 years in longevity and a summary of the many facets and efforts of the Department including recruitment and retention of minority students, faculty and staff; student services, immigration/visa issues, etc.
He reported that in the near future a “Progress Report” would be issued. But indicated that while innovative programs are in place, cost is considerable and effort is ongoing, the increase in statistics is disappointing.
Edna asked how we at Tri-Campus might help … suggesting that in the communities of Hartford, Torrington and Waterbury there is a large and diverse minority population to be reached.
Extended internships, post graduate and pre-doctoral incentives brought to the Tri-Campus Leadership table by David Williams were mentioned.
Lin Rising spoke of the Statewide Community College efforts that have been in place and have proven reasonably successful.
Bill Uricchio spoke of student workers of diverse ethnic background who have gone on to graduate and be hired.
Tessie Naranjo and Bonnie Smith spoke of the complicated Search Process that call for “guessing” with regard to age and ethnicticity of candidates.
VP Taylor agreed to look into that…as well as to help put together group resources with whom Tri-Campus might work.
Bonnie will schedule a meeting sometime this summer of the individuals identified by Vice Provost Taylor and Tri-Campus Leaders to consider next step.
