Additional Items
- Torrington Director Mike Menard introduced Christine Mossman Torrington 's newly hired Academic Advisor and Student Affairs Coordinator.
- Greater Hartford Director David Williams put the “engineering” issue on the table. As it is required that all engineering students have access to an advisor on his/her campus and further that Adjunct Professors are not considered qualified to ‘advise' that puts the Greater Hartford Campus (upon the retirement of Neal Alderman) and the Torrington Campus in the position of not being able to admit engineering majors unless they are ACES students. To complicate the situation, neither the Enrollment Committee or the Admissions Department were advised of the regulation… and may have inadvertently admitted engineering students. Sr. Admissions Counselor Dana Forchette is to determine whether or not students have been admitted erroneously and e-mail all with the information. Edna McBreen will contact Veronica, Lee and Dolan.
- David Williams also put the “Adjunct Retirement” issue on the table. It is thought that Adjunct Professors will be eligible to put monies in a retirement account and that each adjunct's 5% contribution will be matched by an 8% contribution from the University. It is unclear where monies for the 8% match will come from. It is unclear whether or not such an option must be written into all Adjunct's offer letters. Bonnie Smith is to research and report.
- Tri-Campus AVP Edna McBreen asked for a report on Tri-Campus IT. It was noted that Sheila Harris and Victor Schiavi are working on a comprehensive inventory, analysis and prioritization of staff and services. Their final report will be put on Leadership Agenda.
- Discussion regarding Distance Learning and monitors of programs revealed that staff members working extra hours as Monitors are no longer considered eligible to serve as monitors. It was noted that that will have impact on Tri-Campus system.
- There was a brief discussion regarding the State Higher Education Task Force on Faculty. It was noted that UConn should have six credible representatives on the Task Force.
- Waterbury Campus Director Bill Pizzuto gave report on Life Long Learning initiative and the OSHER grant we are in process of applying for.
- Dana Forchette distributed an article from the “Town Times” regarding UConn admissions.
Dana also distributed a regional campus promotion sheet and reported that deposits are up at two of the Tri-Campus campuses.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 8, at the
Greater Hartfrod Campus.
