Tri-Campus Leadership Team
September 28, 2005
Greater Hartford Campus
Present: Edna McBreen, Bill Pizzuto, Mike Menard, David Williams, Tessie Naranjo, Lin Rising, Nadine Brennan, Angela Brightly, Judy DiLaurenzio, Dana Forchette, Victor Schiavi, Patty Toupin, Bill Uricchio
Meeting notes from August 31, 2005 were provided to all attendees and approved.
Gene Roberts needs input so he can request money. Tessie has given him details for all three campuses. He has met with Bill twice & Mike twice. David has not yet heard from him.
Lin Rising continuing with preparation of “Position Paper” on TC involvement with CC.
Edna noted that TC needs to keep up with online courses (CCS is offering Economics 111 online). Angela Brightly said Fred Maryanski had all final online course exams on the last day.
Mission Statement and 5 Year goals were completed by Directors.
4/7/06 Human Rights Convocation meeting will also be the Tri-Campus all-Faculty & Staff spring meeting (fallback dates 4/21 and 4/28). Meeting either at GHC or another Hartford location (if mayor participates).
Career Services:
Nadine Brennan's presentation of Advising & Retention will be made to John Saddlemire on September 29 th . On October 14 th advisor training is being offered – Nadine has requested an agenda.
Bill Pizzuto suggested the one-stop approach. He also noted that bringing in tables (such as banks) works well.
Mike Menard noted that Career Services is rated poorly by students – they feel very little connection. However they do a good job at job fairs. Dana has requested information from Career Services; Edna advised looking into their technology.
Edna brought up the student affairs retreat: Which partnerships make sense? It all comes back to money. We need a setup of what career services will be. Cannot hire new personnel as we are overstaffed now. Nadine noted that the Storrs model can't be used; School of Business has a model and Urban & Community Studies is working on their model. Advisors need this information disseminated to them.
Edna asked Nadine and Dana to start advising her on how the plan should be organized. Doesn't always need a full-time person. TC needs to figure out how to get Career Services training.
Edna: Internship/placement are totally separate and should be kept separate. Dana will provide information on people who are good resources. Bill Uricchio suggested doing a Career Services section at each campus, either through a handout or putting it on the website. Nadine noted that Career Services has a good website and wants staff to look through it. Meghan Hamilton and Dana will help with training. Nadine will attend a Senior year experience meeting on Thursday and bring back some information. Nadine suggested doing a virtual career fair like Meghan did. ONET software is what was used. Dana should have a Career Services and FYE table.
Regular Reports
- Bill Uricchio has received five applications for the part-time librarian position in Torrington and has scheduled two interviews.

- Bill Pizzuto has received 11 resumes for the IT position. No applications yet received for Lifelong Learning/Outreach position.
- Mike Menard will interview three candidates the week of October 10 for the computer technician position. Interviews will take place in David Williams' conference room
Lin Rising's report on CC Status to be added as a permanent “regular report”
Action Items completed
- Admissions and Recruitment Action Items and Policy Changes finalized by Dana & Mike
- Directors' review of facilities expenditures has been done
- Nadine has completed template for Laminated resource contact card – will be updated as needed
Ongoing Action Items
Dana gave transfer student information to Nadine – it will be provided to the team
Mike & Judy to report back regarding progress of co-listing of courses; needs to be reworked so it's on their website
Bonnie to provide listing of adjuncts teaching at CC as well as Tri-Campus to all Admissions to take the lead in scheduling meetings (in Spring) with TC campuses, CC and HS guidance counselors.
Lin to follow through on participation in Human Rights Awareness Initiative
Mike to find out more information regarding online courses and report back.
Mike noted a staff member should administer final exam rather than a student.
Victor & Nadine agreed that students shouldn't be placed in that position
Nadine will follow-up regarding student fees. The orientation fee will continue to go to regional campuses. Nadine is waiting for a sample package for an orientation fee (if it's not on the fee bill students may not come). To get more money TC needs to go through Veronica Makowsky. She is looking at how all student affairs are funded – what comes out of tuition, what comes out of general fee – and will contact Tessie to determine fees paid by students. Why are they different campus to campus? Parking fee is $40 everywhere. David feels a fee is needed for regional campuses and Mike added that a student orientation fee proved to be worthwhile. Do community colleges charge a fee?
New Action Items:
Tessie discussed the $82,000 we are short – going forward, we need to look at TC expenditures for adjuncts, research and start-up costs very carefully.
Nadine to follow-up with Career Services regarding training for the disabled
Invite Scott Campbell to come to a Leadership meeting for a status update on the Writing Center.
Angela to set up a meeting on which classes are being offered, whether adjunct or full time faculty, how many enrolled and expenditures this and next semester. Look at numbers to figure out why a course is being offered. Do this for two semesters (Judy, Nadine, Robin).
Nadine to coordinate a follow-up meeting in January on status of tutoring programs.
Work Force Data to be discussed at next Directors' meeting and results to be provided at next Leadership meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 26 at the Torrington Campus. Click here to go back to the
